Hello everyone! I am so happy to report back about my first experience of LENT in action. Yesterday, was an inspiring day and I am truly humbled by my experience, and it was only the first day! I started out anxious, wondering if I could actually make all the lunches myself yesterday morning, but I had a system going pretty fast after the fifth sandwich was made. I wasn't sure how many people I would find, but I was hopeful, and with the funds that were donated I was able to make 30 lunches. When it was finally time to distribute the lunches I was extremely nervous. I had been warned that not every one likes to be helped or given food, and so I had to know rejection was a possibility and to not take it personally. Luckily I had my boyfriend by my side, and also filming for my mini-doc, to support me through this experience. The first few people we found we extremely thankful and even had tears in their eyes, others were hesitant, and some refused to accept the gesture. My favorite response was from an older gentleman who was reading a book. We handed him a lunch and water and the biggest grin spread across his face. Joey told him to have a good day, and he replied "I am going to have a good day, you're helping me have a good day!", and that warmed my heart. I knew in that moment I knew I was doing something special. He was reading a book and next week I hope to find him in the area again and pass along a few books to him.
Donations are starting to come in. My parents have been a big part in the donations, and I hope others are inspired by their generosity! Tonight we went to Costco to restock "The LENT Kitchen" and it was quite reasonable. If you'd like to donate any of the items needed I would greatly appreciated because when you are feeding the hungry, food goes fast!
Thank you for your support!
